A Short List of Very Good Baking Tools

A Short List of Very Good Baking Tools

Hi there,

I know. Your inbox is full of Prime Day emails. Mine is too.

I’m not here to give you a list of 47 things you’ve never needed. But this is a good time to make your life better with a few good cookie scoops, finally buy the beautiful Bundt pan, or simply add a few truly useful tools to your kitchen.

These are the baking things I actually use, love, and recommend at Wild Rye.

Three-Piece Cookie Scoop Set
One of the easiest ways to improve your baking. Even portions mean everything bakes more evenly, makes less of a mess, and looks so much better. This set comes with three sizes that work for a whole host of things. Use these scoops for cookies, cupcakes, and even pancakes. Ooh! And ice cream too.

Pullman Pan
A really good loaf pan matters. This one gives quick breads and loaf cakes the clean, sharp edges you’d notice in a bakery, along with an even, deeply golden crust. Use it for banana bread, pound cake, our Olive Oil Cake—or anything you dream of, really.

Heritage Bundt Pan
I love this pan. The shape is beautiful enough that a little powdered sugar is genuinely all your cake will need to feel celebratory. Use it with one of our cake mixes and suddenly you have a gorgeous centerpiece with very little effort.

Tulip Cupcake Liners
A small thing that makes muffins and cupcakes look immediately more special. These are the ones I use in my kitchen. They also give the batter a little more room to rise, which means taller tops and less spilling over the sides.

The Cake-Decorating Heroes
You do not need a hundred tools to frost a beautiful layer cake. These four will get you there. And if you’re looking for a tutorial, you can find one on our YouTube channel.

  1. Cake Boards give you a sturdy surface to build on and make it much easier to move or transport the finished cake.
  2. A Turntable lets you spin the cake as you frost, which makes smooth, even sides infinitely easier. Plus, it’s just very fun.
  3. A Bench Scraper is the hero behind those clean, bakery-style edges.
  4. An Offset Spatula is perfect for spreading frosting between layers, smoothing the top, and adding all the little swoops and swirls.

That’s it. A short list of things that earn their space in the kitchen.

I hope you find this list useful—and maybe even a little inspiration to bake. You deserve it!

Big Love,
Sarah
