American Buttercream Frosting
In the bakery, we call this classic frosting ABC. It's incredibly simple and yields a fluffy, stable and sugary frosting that the kiddos and adults alike love. Pro-tip: To ensure smooth and fluffy frosting that’s easy to spread, make sure your butter is softened to room temp. If your butter is slightly cool that’s okay! You will just need to whip the frosting longer.
INGREDIENTS:
- 2 ½ sticks (1 ¼ cup, 12 ounces) unsalted butter, at room temperature
- 2 ½ cups powdered sugar
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 3 tablespoons milk, any
INSTRUCTIONS:
Using an electric mixer fitted with the whip attachment, or a hand mixer, beat the butter on medium high until speed until fluffy.
Add in powdered sugar, vanilla, salt and milk, mixing on low until the frosting starts to come together.
Once together, increase the speed to medium high and beat until fluffy and smooth, which will take 3 to 4 minutes.
*If using a hand mixer, you will need to mix the frosting about twice as long. So just stay patient and have fun =)
YIELD: enough to frost 2 8” or 9” layers, or 1 dozen cupcakes
